"ablation study"とは「ネットワークを部分的に除去することで、ネットワークの挙動をよりよく理解すること」だそうです。適切な日本語がわからなかったので、訳文ではそのまま表記しました。
“ablation study” has been adopted to describe a procedure where certain parts of the network are removed, in order to gain a better understanding of the network’s behaviour.
しっかり読んでいないので確証はないのですが、論文のTable 3で"removed layer"というものがあり、いくつかのパターンでネットワークの除去をして検証しています。それが"ablation study"に該当するかと思います。
ablationという単語自体は名詞で「(手術などによる)除去、切除、融除、アブレーション」という意味です。
